Pic(k) of the Week: When the dew point tops 24 °C.

Draft Pilsner in Sam Adams glass

When the dew point tops 24 °C...

A beer not murky; not ugly; not fowled with chicken parts.

No.

A draught of pilsner-style lager.

Yes.

Dewdrops condensed. Such a lovely thing.

  • The glass was a Samuel Adams Boston Lager glass (turned antipode), although the beer was not. The discordancy of beers in others' clothing.
  • The dew point is the temperature at which air is saturated with water vapor. Most people are comfortable with a dew-point temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius) or lower. At a higher dew point of, for example, 75 °F (24 °C), most people feel hot or sticky because the amount of water vapor in the air slows the evaporation of perspiration and keeps the body from cooling. Compared to relative humidity, dew point is frequently cited as a more accurate way of measuring the humidity and comfort of the air, since it is an absolute measurement.

    1. Sometimes, it's the idea of the thing that is the thing, rather than the thing itself.
