Today, it's the start of Labor Day weekend in the USA, the political (not calendar) mark of the end to summer and the beginning of autumn. Monday is a national holiday in honor of labor: unionized or not, computer-screened or jack-hammered.
Many will be working nonetheless; others will not. Unemployment, as measured by government metrics, is at 9.7% (14.9 million Americans), the highest rate since 1983.
